Front to back, Falcon 40 - EXI 450 - E-Smart.

This is the path I took for learning to fly,
- Started on a flight simulator,
- Then went to the HoneyBee Fixed Pitch (almost the same thing as the Falcon 40)
- Then a 450 sized CP (The falcon 40 will fly just like a CP in basic flight)
- And then I went to the biggest heli I could afford to crash, the ES600

If you know you want to fly single rotor helis this is the fastest way to get to that point. I can do light 3D in under a year of flying. Having a bigger more stable heli has helped my skills progress the most. Always get the biggest heli you have room to fly and can afford to crash. Going from a 300 size Fixed Pitch to a 450 sized Collective Pitch helicopter was day and night. Once I got over my initial fear of the heli, all my training on the HBFP kicked in and I was off doing basic flight, the same basic moves and controls that I learned on a 4ch single rotor heli like the Falcon 40 applied right to the 6ch CP heli.

For help with 4ch Fixed Pitch Helis, watch my HBFP V2 Beginners Guide

Is xheli.com giving you anything for doing this Huh?

I have a question on the remark that you have to relearn how to fly a helicopter when you go to a single blade helicopter from a coaxial helicopter. I know opinions very but is this true? Thanks.

the flight characteristics of a coaxial are very different then a single rotor heli. While learning on a coaxial will teach you what stick does what, its not gonna help build the skills needed for a single rotor heli.

But thats not to say you won't transition easily. I had a friend who flew a coaxial, I stuck him on my HBFP one day and within 10 mins he was able to hover it, the very first time he tried single rotor. but he was struggling, he noted that it was much harder then his CX2. Unfortunatly he was kinda put off by the difficulty and decided to stick with coaxials.

Thanks Nuttcaze. I am just looking for the easiest way to learn to fly and not get frustrated and quit flying all together. I also don't want to blow a ton of money on parts.

you're gonna need a sim then, thats the easiest way, get the $20 E_Sky sim from www.xheli.com then buy Clearview flight sim ($40) and you'll have a sim that looks and performs like a much more expensive one

I have a Hummingbird Fixed pitch. I stashed it away but watching that video, the Falcon looked way more stable than the old Hummingbird.
I may get a Falcon 40 one day just to have some indoor fun w/ it.

As stated in many threads. Coax, FP, CP path is a great way to go coupled with sim time.  They did not have Electric helis or coax helis when I began on a .30 Nitro heli but it would have saved me LOTS of gallons of Nitro and time.

When you can get into a large indoor area these little FP's become really stable, Thats what helped me alot, the size of the room I had to practice in.
