Hi,
My name is Denis.
I bought a Tectonic for x-mas and I just finisht breaking in the engine.
It seems to go very well but now there is a problem that seems to be a tight spot in the gears somewhere.
Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be  Thanks.

When you say that there is a tightness in the gears what exactly do you mean!  Is there resistence when you try to spin the tires by hand. I would check that you have good alignment between the clutchbell and the spur gear. I would check to make sure the motor mounts bolts are tight.I would also check the brake linkages and make sure they are fully releasing when the throttle is at idle, this could cause the resistance as well.

Mine does the same thing when I put it on the ground and I push it, it rolls for about 1-5 feet. It always depends and it is as if a sort of irregular park brake comes on and I don't know where it comes from. And I check the brake, that is not the problem.

After i was done breaking in my truck the clutch bell didn't spin freely so when i pushed my truck it wouldn't roll. I had to take my engine off, the clutch bell, and spray wd-40 in the clutch bell. It spun freely then but after i put the engine back in i could hear the medal grinding which means the mesh is off or whatever and found that you have to make sure that when you are tightening the bolts that hold the engine on that you keep the engine turned as far as it can away from the main gear.

Thanks Soccre12, I will try that. I had a feeling that it was somthing to do with the clutch bell.

No, i don't think it is the clutch bell sorry i wasn't clearer but i was just tellin you my problems. I was trying to say that the engine has a little give so you might try loosening the four bolts that hold the engine on and turn the engine as far as you can away from the main gear. Don't take the screws all the way out just loosen them enough and then turn the engine and hold it while you tighten the screws back down with the other hand and see if that doesn't help if not i dont know what to tell you and again sorry i wasn't clearer.

To get the correct alignment you can just move them around and then experiment until it is good

I have been running the 1/8th Tectonic Monster truck now for just over a year.  What sounds like is happening is the centre diff. universal cups loosen up and slide a little bit on the centere differential shaft.  When the cups slide they allow the brass o-ring that is inside the main gear to fall out.  When this happens the main gear spins off center.  You will need to remove the whole centre differential and re-assmble the unit.  I would highly recommend the red locktight on the set screws, as this does tend to happen often.  Tip- you can remove the whole top plate without having to remove the brake and throttle assembly, just manipulate the plate out of the way to pull the centre diff out.  This saves a ton of time having to re-do brakes and throttle.
