I'm trying to help the other guy with his binding gear issue.  Are you strickly a Traxxas man, or do you own one of these as well?  I own a couple of the Exceed-RC vehicles, a Traxxas Stampede, and an E-Flite Blade CX2 Helicopter.  By no means an expert, but I've been playing with the Tectonic truck for about a year and the improvements they have made are nice.  I pounded on the truck all summer long, big jumps similar to your Jato, and never broke it.  The only real modifications from stock is the removal of that weak .21 engine and replacing it with the .27, replacing the clutch shoes with aluminum, and of course replacing the tires.  The truck is simple and very easy for a newbie to work on.
