Lots of beginners break the skids on hard landings or while "skirting" side to side and hit something.
If you break landing gear and you don't upgrade them, look for EXI skids that are sold with just the plastic struts and not the struts and aluminum tubes.  ANY EXI 450 heli skit will work. SHOOT, I've seen people post pics how they take TREx 500 skids and drill new holes to fit them to their 450 Smiley

The blade 400 skids take some real abuse as well. Good thing is you can usually get them at any LHS. Don't be confused about them being off a 400, the Blade is more of a 450 - 325mm blades, 12mm tail tube, etc. They also have some nice metal as well as cnc struts over at cnc helicopter.

Thanks for the tips,

First skid I broke practicing in my culdesack (yeah yeah, not the best place for a newbie), the second skid (stock) I broke coming down in dirt field.

So I need to learn how to reduce power gradually, and learn how to land is as important as how to hover, lol, go figure.  Now I do too much throttle choping.

Any suggestions?

Adjust your pitch curve so it is more sharp. Basically you are needing increased throttle less pitch change around mid-stick. It shoud smooth out your landings and take offs. More rotor speed will create more lift with less pitch, get me. Can you do that with your set-up?

Tristar;

I noticed that the metal skids on my Blue Ray only had screws inserted in one location (front & back) of each skid leg location.
I added another screw to each end and securely attached the training gear with two tie wraps at each of the 4 connection ptn's....yes...training gear......has saved me tons of headaches!
Trust me, I still do not land that smoothly and have bounced the bird many times above 3'.....the only problem I experinced was with the tie wraps.....the skids rods and legs have held up well under my abuse...need to check all screws that attach both the skids to the legs and frame after each flight!

I see no need to upgrade the skids.......maybe upgrade the pilot experince with a more gentle approach Smiley

Thanks Mustang,

I have it flattend out more, point 2 is up to 50%, point 3 is at 60, point 4 is now at 70, (points 1 and H unchanged) will try starting with that.

Now I have to wait on a tail belt drive gear replacement, appears I have managed to strip mine.  Since  the shaft and gears show in the bearign replacement "set" I hope it comes with with that set (18H-PP0028).

Any comments on trying to secure it with ca, or expxy.  It appears the gears are slipping on the shaft.  (have not pulled it out yet).  I'm talking about the gear that drives the belt off of the main drive gear, not the one in the tail.

That's one thing the design of having the single elev servo in back (vs. front like in the BR) seems nice, don't have to pull the servo to get at that (I'm assuming / hoping).

Everyone complains of that on the EXI. Better to cancel your order and buy the genuine Align piece instead. The same thing will happen to the exi piece again.

Great tip, thanks Chris.

Jdino2,
I am saying "skids" but mean the plastic support arms for them, the aluminum skids are fine.  I am going to try some superskids.  Hopefully with that and the adjustments,  the pilot may learn more control over the heli which of course is the bigger problem.  Shocked

From what I gathered - previous post on same issue - align part has same issues, loosens. I found a part at  E-H-I-R-O-B-O, it,s a copter X part. The gear is pressied on shaft!

I bought one of those fiberglass canopies that Xheli sells for $12.95 with the intention of putting it on my EXI 450 but I went ahead and marked the spots where the rubber grommets go to fit my Belt CP. I gotta say, it's a heck of an improvement in the looks of the Belt CP. I took it off just now and tried it on the EXI 450 and it fits there too!

I wish I saved the link to the glue/expoxy that people have used to secure that darn pully down. I'm sure one day soon I'll need it too!
