If you are new I would get the RTR kit. There is a ton of variables.
Too many to list.
Once you play with it for a while you will learn enough to make an educated choice..
so shelling out the dough for a brushless setup would be a bit much for a newbie then huh?

Oh I would get a brushless car for sure. Just get one that is RTR. There are about a milliion variables in setting it up the right time. Voltage, amps, gearing, Motor KV, # of turns in the motor etc... Get one to start with that has all the right "matching" parts. Fixing that one up for a while will teach you most of what you need to know.
