Some helis do have a arming switch or on/off button, but must do not. The heli is turned by plugging in the batt.
this turns on the rx (receiver in heli) and intializes the gyro ( which is why you should not move it doing this process.

There is a mod for this if you are interested.

Dlan

Wait, mod for this?  Am I to understand that somehow physically moving the helicopter as you plug its battery in causes problems?  (that was probably a stupid question, but please explain that mod--it piqued my curiosity Smiley )

Also--the thing I typed: "XD" was in fact just a smiley face.  Apologies--I thought it was common internet lingo by now XD  Wink

Well I did not know that about XD. I learned something today Grin

Your heli should be on flat level surface when you turn it on. If you move the heli while gyro is intializing the default settings will be off causing unstable flight as gyro trys to return heli to orientation it was in when started.

I don't have a switch on any of my helis but my plane does. Basicaslly it is a on/off switch between ESC and battery. This is a convenience device so you can plug everything in and button up your craft before you turn it on. Some people just plug batt in , wait for gyro to intialize then install batt in model.

I hope this makes some since to you.

Glad to be of internet-lingo help Wink

And you did help...at least enough for me to ask the following question Cheesy  Do you mean to say that the instant I plug the battery in on my Wolf, when it makes that singular, brief sound (something like "zhhht!"), it's actually measuring what is considered 'level' ground?  If so, then I now know why my first flight needed such readjustment, heh.

But is this the case?  Because it's really hard to plug in the battery with the helicopter flat on a table (very little room to work with)....

The gyro initialization may take more than an instant - some take several seconds - and there may not be a sound associated with the action. You may hear the servos beginning to move a little after power is up.

It is inconvenient, but nearly all helis power up when you plug in the battery - adding a switch can create a problem because of current ratings or reliability issues, and I suppose a scale body makes it a little worse.

You mentioned earlier about the blades spinning after setting the heli down. There should be a throttle trim lever near the left stick on the transmitter - with that fully down and the throttle joystick fully down, the rotors should not turn. You should not have to lift a running heli to disconnect the battery - in fact, unplugging the battery with it running could cause some electronic failures.

Best of luck to ya - not being an Air Wolf owner, i may not have the specifics for your heli - it's general advice.

This is why some guys will hook up battery without installing it in heli until gyro intializes.
