I just bought my father a Black Air Wolf, as seen here: http://www.xheli.com/2airchertfwa.html .  We are fairly new to RC Helicopters, having purchased a number of Air Hogs--but I decided to kick it up a considerable notch by buying one on xheli.com since we had such bad luck getting stable helicopters before.

It looks great, and somehow without proper instructions we were able to get the battery charged and installed, and everything assembled as well.  Right now, there is a blinking red light in the cockpit when the battery is connected (barely visible with the chassis), and the (rather large) remote control flashes its colors then goes to steady coloring, so all seems to be just about ready.  (Also, I can't seem to find an off button, which stinks since in order to stop the rotating blades the one time we got it to work, we had to try and lift up the active heli and unplug the battery, awkwardly.)

The book simply says to start the controller's throttle in its downward position to get the heli started, but that does not seem to be enough.  For a brief moment after several tries, however, I lucked out.  I still don't know what I did, but I was confident enough that it was about to work (some of the features on the controller began to rotate the blades), handed it over to my father, and it had a very brief almost-take off.  He very gently crashed it into its nearby box, but it was fine.  However, since then I have not been able to re-create the lift off!  In other words, the controller no longer does anything for the helicopter--none of the blades move (though I think I heard something inside moving once or twice).

Anyway, I simply must ask, since the instructions for the helicopter are not thorough at all.  How does one *properly* get a Black Air Wolf to take off and start up???

With 2.4 g the controller and heli have to sink up. Once you turn on the controller you only have 10 seconds. Turn the controller on first and then plug in the Heli.

If the heli sinks up properly the light inside the window will turn solid.

Sounds to me like the controller has not synced up. Turn the controller on, then plug battery in. Leave it sit for about 30 seconds. You will hear the servos twitching and the light will turn steady red on the heli. The TX will continue to flash for about 10 seconds. Once this turns steady on, wait another 5-10 seconds and try it!

Another thing you want to make sure is to have the trim adjustments in the right place on the transmitter before you turn it on. Look at the picture of the transmitter at xheli. They have them aligned properly.

If this doesn't work you may have to "re-bind" heli with tx. Not sure exact procedure for Walkera brand, but maybe some of the more wiser fellas can help you with that. Have a good evening.

That walkera you have has to bind with heli every time you turn it on. My instructions stated (loose translation) was to bind heli as mentioned above by first turning on tx, making sure throttle was all the way down along with trottle trim then plug in heli. If this does not appear to work it goes on to say to turn off tx while heli is still on then turn tx back on. This should work for you most of the time.  What I do instead and works every time is plug in heli first, wait for rx to start flashing and then turn on tx.

This is the opposite of what most manufactutuers say to do and can be dangerous with other helis but this is what works for the walkera 2401 series and a few others of theirs. Hopes this helps.

Nice looking bird by the way, I hope you and your Dad have a lot of fun with it.  Let us know how it flys
when you get her going.

Beautiful!! This did the trick XD  Finally got around to doing it (sorry it took so many days).  Just turned on the controller (is that the 'tx'?), waited, plugged in the heli, waited, turned off the controller, waited, turned it back on--and whamo!  Instant motor response satisfaction.  Great stuff XD

One thing though--there is no other way to turn off the heli other than to unplug the battery, right? (last time, its rotors kept spinning without our using the controller)

Not sure who XD is but if you meant me, you are welcome, and yes, what you call the controller is what we commonlhy refer to as the tx or transmitter, ( or just radio for that matter.)

Once the heli binds with the tx, it is in control and you shouldn't have any more issues. Don't know why it spun up before
but I would proceed with caution until you have established  a bind routine that you know is reliable, but never let your guard down, these helis can bite back if you are not careful.

Some helis do have a arming switch or on/off button, but must do not. The heli is turned by plugging in the batt.
this turns on the rx (receiver in heli) and intializes the gyro ( which is why you should not move it doing this process.

There is a mod for this if you are interested.
