I had a sililar incedent once when I was 16, reckless driving. My Dad took away my car and sold it. He kept the cash.

My Dad, not the DMV, also took my license away. It was a long time before he gave them back. I had to work and pay all my tickets myself.

He was tough on me, but I think I learned my lesson  Grin

Hahaha Mck, the police allowed me to call my dad to pick me up and get my car towed.  No ticket was issued.  Yes, my dad was really ticked that I was drinking, however he was relieved that I was not hurt.  I did not want to get back on the road again so my father used his method.  Sink or swim.
My father has very interesting methods to this day.  He is a retired SgtMaj Vietnam era.

Thanks,
Q

I remember when I was younger I ran my car into a traffic light trying to make a 90 degree turn @ 50 mph.  A police officer was sitting at the red light and witnessed it all.  I had had quite a few drinks that night and........

Q

Let's get this straight.
You got drunk.Crashed your car.Got picked up by the police.

Your fathers reaction was to force you to drive for no reason?Seriously?
That's messed up.Bad.

i don't know but I'd be scared to go to a bar where you would be ..you'll pick a fight ..

If my kid gets in any type of drunk driving incident, she'll never drive again until she is 18,living out on her own and buying her own car and insurance.Just that simple.

I think I agree with you MC.  As a parent we allow our kids to be responsible to the extent they show that capacity.  Doing something like that demonstrates a lack of capacity to do the right thing - to be responsible... and therefore no longer qualifies for driving privileges.

BTW, how old is your daughter now?  Like, 3?  Mine is 7 as of 6 weeks ago.  I'm putting my daughter in the safest car I can buy when she starts driving.  I have never been in an accident that was my fault, and have avoided countless ones because of my driving skills... but I have been hit twice sitting still in parking lots, had a car change lanes into my lane (even though I was at least even with them when they started the lane change, and I was going faster, so....)... my wife was waiting to turn left... stopped, with blinker on, when a work van rear ended her... I mean, never mind drunk drivers... there's just so many idiot drivers out there!  Add alcohol (and many other things - especially texting while driving) into the mix and its the most dangerous thing you can do!  But that's why I drive very agile, super fast stopping cars - accident avoidance!  First thing I do when I get a car is upgrade the brakes and tires.  The stories I could tell!

Its funny, my wife doesn't like to fly.  People who are afraid of flying amaze me.  They don't think twice about jumping in a car though.

Gotta put my 2cents in here.

I have 2 boys - 19 and 16. (Yeah. 2 licensed teenage boys. (Shudder))
I use a device called the carchip in their cars. Tells me exactly how they drive.
I must be at the more harsh end of the parenting scale because I have taken the cars away, several times, from both of them for driving like an idiot. And I make them pay for their own gas and 1/2 of their insurance. The 19 (almost 20) year old is about to loose his again for speeding.
If either one even thought about doing something as stupid as drinking and driving, (crash or not) I'd be kickin their A$$ across town and back, taking the car and license.
I've always tried to instill in them that driving is a priveledge, not a right.

BTW, the 19 year old is in college.

(How did this thread stray so far from the "sackage" issue?)

My input on getting the confidence back is to fly something else for a bit. I love to fly foamie planes. Whenever i fall of the horse, I'll throw a foamie in the sky and it makes me happy and more confident. The whole being nervous goes away one day when it hovers itself, goes away and comes back with ease. It just starts to happen and you almost don't even see it.

RDA, what radio are you using? Do you have lots of expo in the radio or is that an option. I'll put 40% expo and it the heli reacts so docile at the slightest touch where at 20%, it is starting to become a handful. no expo and i can't fly it

I'm a new dad at 39 yo. I wouldn't put her back in a car if for no other reason than disrespecting my trust till she got her own and lived somewhere else. I've never been hit by a Drunk Driver, But i am doing a life sentence from hitting a car on a motorcycle because the car driver wasn't paying attention and he took me out, big time. He had minimum liability coverage too, i think i got $3k for that one. It's strange how dd's never get hurt in there accidents and how they never have a pot to piss in little lone any sort of insurance coverage at that point.

Expo will make the servo move more slowly near the middle of stick travel.  The larger the number, the larger the area around mid-stick where this effect occurs.

As you move the stick outside this area the servo ramps back up to full speed.

To really tame it down you can also use dual rates.  For example, 80% dual rate on cyclic that has been set up for 6 degrees cyclic pitch would only yield 4 degrees cyclic pitch.  This will not have an effect on your main blade collective/throttle pitch.  It will just in effect slow down the cyclic, but the servos won't move as far.  It'll take "more stick" to move the cyclic the same amount.

Back in the day I flew my first 450 with 80% D/R and gradually ramped it up as I felt more comfortable and needed more "zip".

RDA - Put in about -20% expo. Will slow it down around the center.
