Nightflyyer (Dave Herbert) IS the man.  I have a few differences of opinion with him, but mostly I agree with him without reservation.

He likes to refer to Idle Up/Stunt mode as "Throttle Hold".  This may confuse nOObs as to the terminology.  He may be right; holding the throttle at a certain point is what the flight mode switch does, right?  But the current vernacular is that "Throttle Hold" cuts the heli motor OFF.

Other than this little insignificant point, anything the man says should be taken as heli gospel.  Any RC aircraft gospel, for that matter.  How can you argue with someone who has flown RC aircraft as stand-ins for the real deal in movies like "Blue Thunder"?  He literally invented NOTAR's (NO TAil Rotor) helis for Shogun.

His flight demos and reviews in his YouTube channel offer unbiased observations on many new RC aircraft available now.  He don't pull no punches, neither.  See his Spitfire review at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BeG-F3nw0HE

My first RC heli of ANY kind was an AirHogs Reflex.  He had a review and demo of that one and the previous "Helix" model online.  I saw that and he kind of piqued my interest with other RC aircraft and now...I'm broke.  But I have a GREAT flying heli.

I don't always agree with what he says either. But does anyone agree with everyone anyway?
He's been around a long time in this hobby. He has lots of useful information to pass along. Hopefully people can take ANY information from EVERYone with a grain of salt and use their own minds to decide after thinking about it. This hobby sure does require alot of thinking (and tinkering).

If he's slipping and saying throttle hold, that's just a mistake. It's not holding throttle. He may not realize what he said. I know I slip once and a while then have to rework a video creatively.

I don't know if he does this (can't remember or not, don't don't think so) but I personally hate it when the idle up switch is refered to the 3D switch. As a matter of fact, I hate it (ok, I"ll use the word peeved) when people refer to simple aerobatics or back flips as 3D.  (I've accidently caught mysel doing this and subsequently slapped myself).
TOO broad of a term, TOO overused.

His videos are interesting to watch to say the least.  I think I like his airplane stuff more than his heli stuff (except the pond fishing).

Dave Herbert is a old man, but in his mind he is still a kid, some kind of crazy. He is since a long time in this business, and has plenty of experience but not everything is helpfull. I thing nowadays he is also a bit influenced by some companys who try to use him as a sales man, I donīt thing this will work. He should go back what he has done in the early days and give a s..... about all this commercial things.

Best regards Dave!

yammx: If you are going to critique some one.. you might want to critique your english or typing skills. I THINK not (thing) you left your self open for this one!. Dave H. maybe older than you or I but his background and experience is far greater than most of us combined. If he has sponsers more power to him! If you got to that level you to would be happy with it. Pilots that fly for Align, Youngblood, Avant, Aurora to name a few, all push what they are teamed with. Dave nevers mentions a sponser but does have his favorites. So what? I like his stuff, is he a kid at heart ? YEAH! but so am I and alot of us!

I've only watched a half dozen of them but he seems pretty honest in his reviews to me. I try to do the same thing myself if I put up a review of something.  One thing reviewers do is if there is an issue, they often contact the mfg to get a response before they go flaming them on the internet like some newbies do (I hate that).  Dave, seems to have fun and I hope I will keep having fun when I've been into the hobby that long.

Go Disco Dave!
