I tried flying a Wild Hawk rc plane the other day and ended up crashing three times after a couple of seconds in the air.  The wind speed was about 11 mph.  Are rc planes able to be flown on a windy day or do you need it to be absolutely calm?  I saw a video of the A10 being flown on a windy day and it appeared to fly ok.

Personally, I think that plane is very small, and cant stand up to more than 7mph winds, now when you advance to bigger planes, you can fly at stronger winds. Grin

If you search on RC groups, you'll find a thread on using a rate gyro on the ailerons of a small foamie with some links to videos.  I had one on a cheap foamie for a couple years that finally met it's doom.  Although I'm an accomplished fixed wing pilot, I flew it very often in the wind that grounded most skittish.40-.60 sized nitro guys (15mph). with dampened ailerons, you can land w/ way more confidence in the wind w/o your wings flipping over on you.

Oh, wait, I forgot, I wrote it all up here: Smiley

forgot about that page hidden on my website!
Plus, you can get that esky gyro from Nitroplanes or Xheli!
that Esky 704 Gyro is pretty much the best one to get started with.
RC powers used it once (but in a different way). I did not like the way he was explaining it so I detailed it all out on my website.

I will say that the gws gyro I used in the video is not as easy to set up as the Silver Esky 704 which is MUCH easier
