This thing looks badass.  But is it worth the money?  Huh?

I dont like it,
It seems like it would be too slow to have fun with. Just my Opinion tho.
Also when you see prices on RC cars make sure to look at what it comes with..
Radio?,Motor?,Battery? Etc...

Try looking at Traxxas Trucks T-Max or Stampede RC10 to RC18 since your looking at trucks
A buddy of mine has 2 Traxxas Trucks and they are bad, and move !
They are not hard to work on i have rebuilt the rear differential on one of his trucks and installed upgraded aluminum parts as well.

Shouldn't be a bad choice, but those crawlers are mainly for maneuvering about in rocks.  They have a lot of torque to climb and get over obstacles, but aren't very fast.  Labyrnth may have the right idea to be honest.  Hell, you may even want to look into a mini.  Fairly cheap (but great quality), and a good place to get started.

I have the buggy version of this model, and it has been fantastic.  Duratrax's customer support is also wonderful.  My first ESC burned out, and I contacted them via e-mail.  They sent me a new one right away for free, didn't even ask for the old one back or a receipt or anything; And not only that, it was the newer and more expensive version.  They also have what they call a stress tech-guarantee; doesn't matter how it happens-they will replace almost all of the plastic parts (there is a list on their website) for free for one year after the purchase date.

It comes with a stock 650mah battery, but to the honest, its weak.  You'll see huge gains in power and battery life with a better pack.
I like www.cheapbatterypacks.com
If you want a pack, use this link http://www.cheapbatterypacks.com/?menu=8F61FF36D0&sid=41441 and click on a car, then duratrax, and the Vendetta, and then select the only option (6-cell count).  I'd suggest the Elite 1500mah cells, 22 AWG wire, and then select an HPI micro connector and you're good to go.  Should only be around $18 and shipping for that, and they do a great job on those batteries.

Great charger: http://www.rcplanet.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=DYN4056&click=3

You can go with a crawler till if you would like, but that's just something to think about.  Sorry, I suppose that may be a huge chunk of information you didn't necessarily ask for, but I guess I can't stop myself from always being thorough in my reports.

I watched that youtube video on the site a couple of times.  It looks like it's faster that most crawlers.  I have a lot of rocks around my house that I can use this to climb around and stuff.  Just wanted to know if it was worth the money.

It probably is worth what your paying for it. But your not going to be happy with it after about a week or so.
Just crawling around in rocks is going to get old really fast. You can do that with the T-Maxx and much more.
Check out some youtube videos and compare the RC trucks that are in your budget you like and then make your decision.

What makes an RC car or Truck exciting is the speed of it, and or suspension for getting air.
I have owned the Grasshopper#1 Buggy, upgraded with a new motor and pinion. Took forever to put it together back then. It was completely disassembled and cost around $250.00
I have owned a RC10 Nitro truck, seriously a bad truck. fast and jumps are great.

This is just my opinion on this. You can agree or disagree with any of it you like. Only first hand experiences will let you determine what you think is the best.

Yeah.  I'm just looking to save up for a truck and I'm looking into every kind of off-road vehicle, and this rock crawler really stood out to me.

Well, if you want a bit of the best of both worlds you could look at the Traxxas Summit.  Th electronics are waterproof and the tranny has two gear settings.  The front and rear differentials can also be locked remotely.  So basically, on the low end it has impressive amounts of torque and can climb very well, while still having some pep in the high gear.  It is one of the most innovative builds that I've seen, but of course such ingenuity doesn't come cheap.  Truck is around $500 and requires a charger and two batteries, either 6 or 7 cell NiMH or two 2S Lipo packs.

Great review of the summit if you're interested:http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine/article_display.cfm?article_id=1156

I was actually looking at some other Traxxas trucks.  I really like the Stampede, and but I want a nitro car, so how do you feel about the Nitro Stampede for my first truck?  And is it really only 280 bucks  Shocked?  Sounds kinda cheap for a RTR nitro truck.

That should be a great truck for your first.
Tip: put your receiver in a balloon and then in the opening put a little silicone and zip tie it closed to seal out water. You will end up in some sooner or later.Smiley

I was watching some youtube vids of it in action and it looks like a great truck.  I'm just worried about the break-in process.

I'm actually going to go with buying a Traxxas Nitro Stampede monster truck instead.  But, you still can help me.  Let's say I get it, and it breaks.  What is the best hobby store to buy from that won't give you a lot of bs if I call them asking for a refund if the truck breaks prematurely?
