If your just getting started, and do not want to spend too much on this car. I would use what ever is still usable instead of spending money on stuff. Only spend on things you need to get it going.
If servos are good, use them till one gives out.
If engine will run and stay running. Use it till it gives out.
To test your servos, all you need to do is put batteries for powering the receiver and transmitter, plug in the cars servos and see if they move. Test all the ports on the receiver.

If all is good, then get a fuel and a glo plug igniter and starter for the engine.
See if she runs. If it does and will idle and rev up your good to go.
Play with it till something breaks or quits working or buy upgrades while you have it working and playing/.

If you read in my other post, my piston won't compress.  All it would do is warm up and die.  And my engine is a old DuraTrax belt drive motor.  HobbyTown doesn't have parts for it.

Working on getting a new Exceed HyperSpeed.  Then hopefully getting a Savage.  And building an rc offroad track
